One thing about fashion, is that there is always room for new designers. These two brothers are coming into the fashion game bringing their own sense of style, design, and taste to the world. We sit down with David and Eric Brionez, co-owners of POUVOIR. We look forward to watching these two young designers grow. Enjoy!!
Describe how you guys started your company.
David Brionez: Co-Owner and Creative Director Eric Brionez: Co-Owner and Creative DirectorFor the past few years we have been working on a concept to merge art with fashion into what we have created and is known as POUVOIR.
Our brand recently went live this past August.
How long have you known you wanted to do what you are currently working on?
Since we were younger in Jr. High and High School people always known we were stylish and fashion forward. As we got older we matured with our style and really got comfortable taking risks in what we wore. What we found out was that the more unique the pieces were that we wore, the more reaction we’d get from friends or even random people noticing us on the street. We started to believe we could come up with a great platform that expressed our passions, art and fashion.
Why are you passionate about what you do?
What drives us is knowing there are people out there who are passionate about the same things we are. Which is fashion, paintings, architecture, statues, sculptures, graffiti, patterns, and powerful images.
Knowing the pieces we make will be a conversation piece for our customers is what we want to strive to accomplish every time, while being…well just fucking dope!
How did you overcome your own doubts and the doubts of other people?
Keep pushing, keep grinding and keep positive! Also just believing in each other and knowing that we can create really great fashion pieces. Like no matter what hurdle you have to go through just keep jumping over them because if you got this far why stop at ‘Well the thought of doing a fashion line sounded cool.’
Before we started designing the shirts we made a point that if we’re going to do this we have to go full measure, not half measure. And in order to go the full we had to do our research. We didn’t want to splatter our logo everywhere or copy other brands looks or use cheap material for our pieces. We wanted to create our own interpretation of what we believe is Art fused with Fashion.
What were some bumps you hit to get where you’re at now?
The main challenges we ran into was getting all the business aspects defined. Picking the right website platform to sell our clothes online, setting up business accounts and other legal stuff.
What is one thing you did wrong in the past that you can share with people?
Make sure to set up an honest and accurate timeline of what you want to get accomplished because it’s really easy to fall behind on things.
What is a way you got your name out there?
Having a good team around you who believes in you and your brand. Surround yourself with successful people and it’ll transcend in various ways. Networking and going out to places to spread the word about what you do. If you come off as genuine and passionate, people will support it!
Is there anything that almost stopped you from doing this?
Honestly no, we always kept talking about doing it and kept reminding ourselves we can make an innovative brand.
Is there anyone in your profession that you admire and/or model yourself after?
As far as art goes we get inspiration from Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, Keith Haring, Bansky, Warhol, John Fekner, Neck Face and Leonardo da Vinci. The fashion brands we admire are Givenchy, En Noir, Maison Martin Margiela, Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang, Supreme, 10 Deep and Wil Fry.
How do you continue to perfect your craft?
Since we’re brothers we continue to be each other’s worst critic. Which can get really frustrating at times but it forces us to work harder on our designs.
How do you envision the future of your products?
The idea behind our brand is to showcase art through fashion and garment. So we also are developing a showcase section on our website which will exclusively display and promote select local artist work as well as provide bio’s and contact/purchase information to fans and buyers. We feel this would be a beneficial platform for any local artist and designers to get their work out to the public eye and for our brand to grow and enable us to collaborate with as many artists as we can so feel free to contact us!T-Shirts were the beginning of our line but we plan on extending that with different garments specifically suited for the fall/winter whether it be hoodies, jackets, long sleeve shirts, pants, etc.
Also due to high demand we plan on extending our brand with a women’s line called POUVOIR FEMME. More details to come on that in the future!
What’s some advice you can share for anyone who wants to pursuit what you are doing?
Be original. Have a great logo behind you, don’t over think it keep it simple and clean. Don’t give up on channeling your creativity no matter how hard it may seem to accomplish. And do your research on pricing, fabrics, trends, social media and competition.
How much of your business is driven by online buyers/clients?
Having a website is one of the most important things to have for a business these days. And having a website that you can view from any device is important too. It’s where most of our business has came from but we do plan on having our clothing in a few selects boutiques so follow us on social media to keep updated on that.
